[toc] Season of the Haunted is here and on top of bringing back some of the best Chalice of Opulence weapons, it also includes several brand-new weapons. Some of these definitely have the potential to become top tier in today’s meta.
This guide covers all the weapons from Season of the Haunted (S17) activities (Sever weekly quests and Nightmare Containments) and tells you how to best farm them.
The best Haunted weapons in Destiny 2
The Tier list below includes every Haunted weapon in the game (it’s still a little too early to rank them but we’ll update this section as we land diverse rolls to play around with):
These are the different Tier levels used for this ranking:
- S Tier – Best: Highest ranking weapon types.
- A Tier – Strong: Very strong weapon types, but not on the same level as S Tier Choices.
- B Tier – Average: Decent choices that can be lethal in the hands of a skilled player.
- C Tier – Weak: The middle of the pack, somewhat mediocre.
- D Tier – Worst: Lagging behind the competition, these don’t have much to offer.
Destiny 2 Haunted weapons farm: Where to find them
With several new currencies to earn and activities to complete, farming Haunted can be intimidating. But as soon as you familiarize yourself with Season 17’s currencies, you’ll see that farming weapons this season is a straightforward affair.
There are mainly 2 methods to acquire Haunted weapons right now:
- Completing seasonal activities: Sever weekly quests and Nightmare Containments
- Decoding Umbral engrams at the Crown of Sorrow using Opulent Umbral Energy
Seasonal activities
1. To start, you’ll need to farm a currency called Vestige of Dread:
The main currency this season, Vestiges of Dread drop from either completing Playlist activities or completing activities in the newly added Derelict Leviathan destination (opening chests, completing Patrols, killing mini bosses, etc).
Pro tip: Equipping the seasonal armor (the Eidolon Pursuant set) will help you farm Vestiges of Dread a lot, as every armor piece will grant you 5% additional Vestiges. Equipping 4 pieces will grant you +20%!
2. Once you have 500 Vestiges of Dread, you can head over to the Derelict Leviathan and tackle the Nightmare Containment activity. Once you beat its final boss (Tier III), you’ll see a chest and a Relic spawn. Use your Vestiges of Dread on the Relic for extra rewards, including Haunted weapons, Opulent keys, Opulent Umbral Energy, and more.
3. The first time you bind your Vestige of Dread each week will always drop an item called Bound Presence (after that, Bound Presence drops are purely RNG-based). You can then take your Bound Presence and complete the weekly Sever quest for extra rewards including seasonal weapons and armor.
This gameplay loop will guarantee you a healthy amount of Haunted weapons per hour.
Haunted Umbral engrams
Binding Vestiges of Dread will also reward you Opulent Umbral Energy which you can then take to the H.E.L.M. and use it to focus Umbral engrams into Haunted weapons.

I’ve been covering gaming since 2012, and some of my work has been featured by large brands, including MSN.com, Forbes, Rock Paper Shotgun, and more. I’ve been obsessed with Destiny 2 for years now, and I hope to provide new and returning players with the guides and resources I wish I had when I first started.
